Man Inappropriately Touched Girl, 8, in Huntington Library: Police

The Huntington man was arrested Sunday afternoon.

A Huntington man faces sex abuse charges after police said he inappropriately touched an 8-year-old girl at the Huntington Public Library on Sunday afternoon.

According to authorities, Christopher Elgut, 28, approached the 8-year-old, who was standing behind her mother at the counter, picked the girl up, brought her behind a column and touched her inappropriately at 4:30 p.m.

The girl then screamed and Elgut fled the library, located at 338 Main St., on foot.

He was found a short distance away within 20 minutes of the incident thanks to a description of Elgut that was broadcasted to second precinct patrol officers.

Elgut was charged with first degree sex abuse, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of marijuana.

He was held overnight at the fifth precinct and will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
