2 Ducklings Stuck In Storm Drain Rescued By Police

This was the third duckling rescue in Suffolk County reported last week.

COPIAGUE, NY - Two ducklings stuck in a storm drain were rescued in Copiague by police earlier this week.

On May 12, Environmental Conservation Officer Chris DeRose was monitoring Suffolk Police Department channels when he heard a call reporting an injured mallard duck along Montauk Highway.

When he arrived, the officers were at the scene and a mother mallard was dead in the road. Her ducklings had wandered into the storm water drain nearby and were unreachable.

To rescue them, DeRose, along with the officers on scene, used scrap pieces of plywood to force the ducklings to one side of the drain so they could be captured.

The ducklings were in good health and delivered to a licensed wildlife rehabber in Massapequa.
