How To Get Free Tickets to Pope's 2015 New York Visit

The pontiff will travel through Central Park before Mass Sept. 25.

Pope Francis will travel through Central Park while visiting New York City later this month, the city announced Tuesday.

The announcement stated that the pontiff will travel through some of the park before his Mass at Madison Square Garden Sept. 25.

Tickets are required to enter the event and only New York state residents may attend the gathering.

Those wanting to enter a random drawing for tickets may do so on a special website created for the event. Entrees will be accepted between Sept. 3 and 7.

The Central Park visit will come after a busy day for Francis.

The Pope will address the United Nations General Assembly at 8 a.m., attend a multi-religious service at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center, and visit Our Lady Queen of Angels School in East Harlem.

Here is the Pope’s NYC itinerary in full:

Thursday, September 24

  • 5 p.m. Arrive at John F. Kennedy International Airport
  • 6:45 p.m. Evening Prayer (Vespers) at St. Patrick’s Cathedral (open only to the Clergy of St. Patrick’s Cathedral)

Friday, September 25

  • 8:30 am Visit to the United Nations and Address to the United Nations General Assembly (open only to UN officials)
  • 4 p.m. Visit to Our Lady Queen of Angels School, East Harlem (open only to a select group of students and administrators from four Catholic schools in New York, and a gym full of Catholic Charities representatives)
  • 6 p.m. Mass at Madison Square Garden (tickets reportedly very limited and not sold to the public; contact your own diocesan chancery office for more information)

Saturday, September 26

  • 8:40 am Departure John F. Kennedy International Airport
