LI Teacher Receives Rod Marriot Theater Award

NORTH BABYLON, NY — A North Babylon High School teacher is being recognized for her lifetime of achievements in the arts.

The North Babylon Union Free School District announced Tuesday that theater teacher and director Lisa Drance received the Rod Marriott Award from the New York Theatre Education Association.

According to a press release, Drance was selected for this award for her significant contributions to theater education in New York State. As a member of the New York State Theatre Education Association, Drance sponsors students to attend the organization's annual student conference, where she is an active presenter. Through NYSTEA, she has given several workshops and currently serves as a co-chair for the organization’s Long Island region.

In addition, Drance has also served on the theater committee of Long Island Scholar Artists and has been an active contributor to several New York State Education Department committees for theater education. She is also a frequent presenter at Long Island’s Balanced Mind conference.
