"My family and friends encouraged me to publish my writings. It has taken me the last year working with my publisher, Open Door Publications to choose from over 250 poems to put in the book."
"This book, I hope, tells a story about how I see life and how events have shaped the way in which I embrace it. Because I am Cuban-born, it is impossible not to feel in certain ways about politics or religion"
Alvaro was born in Havana, Cuba. He and his two brothers were raised mostly by his Catholic grandmother. His father worked in a Castro work camp for approximately 10 years before being allowed to leave the country. His mother worked to support the family. The family left Cuba for the United States in 1973 when he was 13 years old. He has lived in Deer Park for 30 years.
The book can be purchased on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com as well as The Book Revue in Huntington.
