Medical Group to Fill Empty Blockbuster Building

The empty facility, which once housed a video rental store, will be filled by PM Pediatrics.

The former Blockbuster store on Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon won't be empty for long.

PM Pediatrics, a medical group that specializes in emergency care for children, has signed a lease on the building.

The facility had been on the market for less than four months, which is considered a quick sell in comparison to most retail spaces in the area. These days, it is common for commercial land parcels take years to sell, Ari Malul of Schuckman Realty Inc., the broker representing the landlord of the property, said.

"Retailers are scared. They are inherently afraid of failure," he added. "Overall, retailers other than restaurants are nervous to open because sales are not very high because we have places like Walmart and discount stores. It is a scary process."

PM Pediatrics has two other Long Island locations: one in Selden, and another in Syosset.
