North Babylon High Students Taken to Hospital After Drinking Water With Unknown Substance

The two students were taken to the hospital as a precaution. Report says it may have been an April Fools' Day prank gone wrong.

NORTH BABYLON, NY - Two North Babylon High School students were taken to the hospital after they drank water with an unknown substance in it Friday morning, Suffolk Police said.

The container the water was in had previously contained paint, police said.

The students were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center after experiencing elevated blood pressure and heart rates at 8:50 a.m., North Babylon Superintendent Glen Eschbach said in a statement.

The students were alert and responsive and were taken to the hospital for observation, Eschbach said. District administrators accompanied the students to the hospital and contacted their parents.

"The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority," Eschbach said. "We are pleased to learn that both students have since been released from the hospital with no medical conditions related to this incident."

News 12 reported that the incident was an April Fools' Day prank gone wrong, but Eschbach said "it is unclear at this time if this was a prank, and the contents of the bottle are still under investigation."
