NORTH BABYLON, NY — A North Babylon High School student is breaking records in Long Island football history.

Nathaniel Griffith, a senior and running back for North Babylon High School's varsity football team, broke three separate records during a game against Smithtown High School on Saturday.

During the homecoming game, he broke the North Babylon High School, Suffolk County and Long Island single game rushing yards record with 38 carries, 489 yards and seven touchdowns, a news release said.

"What makes his accomplishment all the more impressive is that he’s played through a painful shoulder injury,” North Babylon coach John Rowland told Newsday. “His shoulder hurts every play, yet he plays through it and wears a protective brace. He is about as tough a kid as you’ll find.”

In addition, the North Babylon varsity football team broke the previous school scoring record in their win by putting up 75 points.

Varsity coach James Mango also recorded his 200th win with the program that day, a news release said.
