Officer Clipped By Fleeing Car During Traffic Stop: Police
The two people fled from the officer after they were pulled over, and later crashed into two cars on the Southern State, police say.
NORTH BABYLON, NY — An officer was injured after being struck by a car while conducting a traffic stop in North Babylon last week, according to Suffolk County police. On Thursday, the Suffolk County Police First Precinct officer in a marked unit pulled over a 2017 Mercedes on Woods Road 6:05 p.m., police said.
The passenger of the Mercedes was outside the car, in handcuffs, being interviewed by the officer when he jumped back into the car and the female driver drove away, police said. The officer, who was clipped by the fleeing vehicle, entered his car and followed the two for two blocks before losing sight of the Mercedes, police said.
A short time later, the driver lost control of the Mercedes on westbound Southern State Parkway, striking two other cars, a 2013 Scion and a 2003 GMC, near exit 34, police said. The Mercedes was not being followed by police at the time of the crash.
