SSCM Celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday
First Graders at Saints Cyril and Methodius School celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday with green eggs and ham, cats in hats and more.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." This Dr. Seuss quote adorns the central stairwell at Saints Cyril and Methodius School in Deer Park and this week it is fitting indeed, as students have been celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday in wide and varied ways, just as the good "doctor" would have enjoyed it!
Naturally, starting out with reading a number of their favorite Dr. Suess books was key. First graders then created their own Cats in Hats, did some Seussian brain-work on crossword puzzles, word searches and other fun activities.
They honed their math skills and took part in the democratic process by taking a class vote and documenting their favorite books on a bar chart.

Getting hands on with Mrs. McGerald by making their own green eggs and ham in the classroom made the day even more delicious. And it was especially fun to incorporate some art and science in there, as the students rolled up their sleeves and dove into the color wheel, mixing blue and yellow food dye to create the green they needed for their special eggs!
