Using Math For Charity at Deer Park's JQA

For the fourth year in a row, students at Deer Park’s John Quincy Adams Primary School are participating in a Math-A-Thon fundraising effort for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, coordinated by math lab specialist Marianna Grieco.

St. Jude again supplied Math-A-Thon Funbooks, free curriculum supplements designed to provide students with challenging math problems. Students seek sponsorship pledges from family and friends, who donate based on how many problems or pages the students solve in the Funbook problems. The proceeds benefit childhood cancer eradication initiatives at the hospital, and last year JQA raised a total of $7,861.

“We are proud and happy to help children and their families at St. Jude,” explained Grieco, who gave a Math-A-Thon presentation to the JFK students. “These Math-A-Thon problems will also help the students become better at math.”
