Once on scene, crews set up a perimeter, keeping everyone away from the hole.

They also setup a ladder over the cesspool and gave the woman an oxygen mask to put on themselves.

At the same time, a gas meter was lowered inside the hole to monitor how much oxygen was inside the hole.

Upon the arrival of all technical rescue teams, Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services Coordinators, Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Service Unit and the Operations Chief worked together to form a plan on how to safely extricate the woman.

A tripod was set up over the hole and all ropes were secured so crews could safely lower an East Farmingdale Fire Company tech rescue team member into the hole to get the woman out safely.

Once the tech rescue member was lowered into the hole, he applied a harness around the woman and the two were pulled out.

The woman was washed off and brought to an awaiting ambulance where she was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for further evaluation in stable condition. She suffered from non-life-threatening injuries.
