Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra Begins 40th Anniversary Season at the Brooklyn Museum
Inaugurating the 40th anniversary season, the Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra will present its first concert at the Brooklyn Museum on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. After performing for 37 of its 39-year history at the landmark Church of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn Heights, the orchestra, under the leadership of its Artistic Director, British conductor Nick Armstrong, is moving its operations to the Brooklyn Museum of Art, where it will present a season of five concerts in the Iris and Gerald Cantor Auditorium.
The program includes Brahms' Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Marquez: Danzon No. 2 and Rastegar's Ode To Youth.
"We are thrilled to be at The Brooklyn Museum and look forward to reaching a new audience of museum goers and Brooklynites." said Maestro Armstrong. "This season we will be revisiting masterpieces of the orchestra repertoire as well as continuing our commitment to present contemporary Brooklyn composers. It's our great pleasure to present the world premiere of 'Ode To Youth' composed by Nick Rastegar, our principal oboist, as well as the incomparable Brahms Symphony No. 2, a musicians' favorite."
All of the concerts in the 2013-14 season will take place on Sunday afternoons at the new time of 2 p.m.
Admission to the concert at the door is $20; tickets are available online for $18. Children are free.
Seniors and Brooklyn museum members are $10.
