Learning to Think Outside of the Box-Ditmas Park Natives Kimber-Lee Alston and Daniela Kucher Are Two Entrepreneurs Hoping to Harness Their Creativity Into Companies
Brooklyn is fast becoming and innovation hub with a hip, DIY aesthetic. NYC’s most populous borough is home to some of the country’s most creative entrepreneurs including Ditmas Park’s own Kimber Lee Alston and Daniela Kucher.
Programs like Lehigh University’s Technical Entrepreneurship (TE) Master’s are helping students, like Alston and Kucher, who are interested in embarking on an entrepreneurial endeavor, learn the skills they need to succeed. “The TE program has given me the breadth of knowledge to successfully launch the idea I developed in undergrad. The program has covered finance, manufacturing, marketing and design. I also learned how to master an investor’s pitch,” says Kucher.
As part of the TE program, Kucher has created Beylin, a hair accessories brand that designs products that endure the lifestyle of the modern woman. “”Unfortunately, accessories products on the market do not meet their needs. Every hair accessory product available to women today is disposable and constantly fails at the most inopportune times. I started Beylin to give women what they want; products that last,” says Kucher.

Alston’s company, Jolie Coquette, is a line of flower-dyed apparel for women providing comfort and style. Alston credits the program with “providing (her) invaluable tools needed to think, innovate and build creatively and entrepreneurially.”
Armed with a passion for design and the skills to turn their creative nature into a business, Kucher and Alston hope to pursue their dreams and bring Beylin and Jolie Coquette products to market.
