SUNY Downstate to Hold Annual University Hospital of Brooklyn Health Fair May 18 

SUNY Downstate Medical Center’s University Hospital of Brooklyn will hold its 27th annual community health fair at its Central Brooklyn location in East Flatbush, Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The fair is in recognition of National Hospital Week, whose theme this year is "A Guiding Light for Changing Times.” The event will take place in front of the hospital, at 445 Lenox Road, between E. 35th and E. 37th Streets.  

“This is a celebration of our hospital's history, its advancing technology, and the dedicated healthcare professionals who make it the best place to come and receive excellent care,” said Maria Yomtov, MSN, CDE, T&RCN, director of SUNY Downstate’s Center for Community Health Promotion and Wellness. “Our annual community health fair also celebrates our commitment to bring awareness of the importance of living a healthier lifestyle and to increasing access to care.”

The health fair will feature free health information and screenings – blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, prostate, breast exam, pap test, colon cancer test, hearing test, stroke screening, HIV testing, height and weight measurements, and more – as well as free refreshments, giveaways, and raffle gifts. There will be entertainment for people of all ages, including face painting, tap dancers, clowns, a DJ, pony rides, fitness and exercise demonstrations, and the Sesame Flyers steel band.  For more information call 718-270-3739 or 718-270-2020.
