Celebrating LI Seniors: Football Star Honored By Congressman

EAST ISLIP, NY — Many senior students on Long Island were expecting to celebrate their final year with prom, graduation, and other milestone events. However, the coronavirus crisis has meant that dreams and long-awaited celebrations have been put on hold.

Patch would like to shine a light on these amazing young people and their accomplishments; a new series "Celebrate Your Senior," inviting proud parents and others to spotlight the young people whose accomplishments can't be derailed by the pandemic.

Douglas Rigo nominated his son, Dylan Rigo, a senior at East Islip High School.

Here's what the proud father had to say about his son:

Dylan Rigo is a 4 year starter, 2 year Football Captain who made the top 100 Long Island football players roster three years in a row. He received All-Division Football status 4 times and All-County twice. He was the recipient of the East Islip Mark Brunner Award and helped lead his team to Big Four Football Champs every year throughout his entire Varsity career as well as 2016 Suffolk County Champion. In addition, Dylan is a 4 year starter for Varsity Lacrosse where he was Captain this year. Academically, Dylan has flourished in the classroom as well, making the honor roll every semester, earning him the scholar athlete award nine times!

After being honored and endorsed by Congressman Peter King to attend the Merchant Marines, Dylan has decided to return to his Dad’s roots and attend Utica College, where he will be playing football and in the Honors Cyber Security Program. The East Islip community wishes Dylan the best of everything and hopes he continues to carry his Redmen leadership and Motto of “Our Hearts Are Bigger” throughout the next chapter of his career!
