East Islip Voters Approve $132.5M School Budget
Voters turned out Tuesday to cast their ballots on the proposed 2026 to 2027 school budget.
EAST ISLIP, NY — East Islip Union Free School District voters approved the district’s proposed $132,460,346 budget for the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday, along with two capital reserve propositions and Board of Education races.
The budget passed 741-368.
The approved spending plan represents a $3,116,198 increase over the current year’s $129,344,148 budget, or 2.41 percent.

District officials said the budget is tax-cap compliant and maintains current programs for students in grades K-12 while continuing investments in school safety, security and facilities.
The approved tax levy is $79,046,769, an increase of $1,444,587, or 1.86 percent, over the current year.

The budget includes $67,489,202 for instruction, $42,774,975 for undistributed expenses, $15,090,806 for general support, $6,270,568 for transportation and $834,794 for community services.
State aid is projected at $42,038,317, up from $41,555,720 this year. The district also plans to use $4,294,900 in appropriated fund balance, along with reserve funds, to support the budget.
District officials said the budget supports student learning and academic enrichment, including K-2 LEGO Club, grades 3-5 Math Olympiad, mock trial classroom, technology education projects, culinary labs, child development program experiences, Advanced Placement opportunities and academic competitions.
The budget also continues safety and security upgrades, including door swipe card access systems, blue emergency light notification systems, additional security cameras, interior and exterior door replacements and continued maintenance of asphalt and athletic surfaces throughout the district.
Capital Reserve Propositions
Voters also approved two capital reserve propositions.
Proposition 2, the capital reserve expenditure, passed 743-352.
Proposition 3, the capital reserve transfer, passed 789-304.
Board Of Education Election
Voters also re-elected trustees Jessica Ciampi and Christopher Zachry to the Board of Education. Both candidates ran unopposed.
Ciampi received 765 votes, while Zachry received 743 votes.
District officials said election results remain unofficial pending certification by the district clerk.
