• Fast-acting fans at Smithtown High School East soccer game come to aid of stricken ref (newsday.com) — An East Islip High girls JV soccer game at Smithtown East turned into a life-or-death emergency when the referee collapsed from an apparent cardiac event. An East Islip parent and former firefighter, an EMT, coaches, and staff quickly performed CPR and used an AED, with doctors now expecting the referee to fully recover after the swift response.
• Long Island Sports Spotlight: Whitman Senior Represents Team USA At Taekwondo Worlds (patch.com) — Long Island Sports Spotlight's Suffolk section honors East Islip native and former East Islip High soccer standout Kayla Saager-Beckley, who died Sept. 9 at 30.
