New Yorkers Wait in Bitter Cold for 2 Hours for Opening of Tim Ho Wan Dumplings

Even an arctic blast can't get between New Yorkers and the world's cheapest Michelin restaurant.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Tim Ho Wan, the lowest priced restaurant in the world to get a Michelin star, opened it's first U.S. location on 4th Avenue in the East Village Friday morning. Hour-long lines were reported before the restaurant even opened it's doors at 10 a.m, since nothing stops New Yorkers from getting what they want—not even an arctic blast.

Tim Ho Wan first opened in Hong Kong in 2009. Each dish costs less than $5.50 and are made fresh, in-house daily. Highlights include the hand-crafted dumplings, traditional dim sum and baked pork buns.

"Ours is fresh made," chef Mak Kwai Pui told Eater. "We make it today, we serve it today. This is our biggest thing. This is our biggest difference."

Despite opening a few hours ago, Tim Ho Wan already scored some reviews on Yelp! Most of the reviewers rave about the cheap and mouthwatering eats, as well as the great service. Some, though, took to the app to complain about the weather and the lines:

"Died of coldness for more than an hour- not sure if the dim sum is worth it, the people inside looked warm though," one reviewer wrote, along with a one-star review.
