2 Iconic East Hampton Physicians Honored: Photos
It was a walk down memory lane in East Hampton Village recently: Share some of the memories here.
EAST HAMPTON, NY — It was standing room only at Clinton Academy on Main Street in East Hampton on Friday evening, as the East Hampton Historical Society presented the first night of its Winter Lecture Series 2018, "Doctors, Housecalls & Hospitals".
Audience members who attended "Healing A Village" included not only East Hampton Historical Society members and friends, as well as local history buffs, but also descendants and former patients of Dr. David "Dr. Dave" Edwards and Dr. Doris Zenger, the two subjects of the first lecture.
Dr. Edwards, one of few doctors between the East End and New York City at the time — no Southampton Hospital existed yet — began his 60-plus year practice in East Hampton in 1901.

Dr. Zenger was "D.B. Zenger, M.D., pediatrician", who had been treated by Dr. Edwards for osteomyelitis as a child.
The evening's introduction was presented by East Hampton Village and East Hampton Historical Society Trustee Barbara Borsack, who was actually delivered by Dr. Edwards.

Presentations were made by East Hampton Village history experts Hugh King and Ken Collum, and Ann Thomas, granddaughter of Dr. Edwards.
Everyone sang the praises of the two doctors, even teaming up for a musical "Tribute to Dr. David Edwards", which was also sung at the party for the 50th anniversary of his practice.
Next installments in the series include "The Deadly Flu Epidemic of 1918", which will follow on Feb. 23, and "Fever in Montauk: Camp Wikoff & The East Hampton Community" on March 23.
