Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons Offering Low Cost Obedience Classes

WAINSCOTT, NY — Have a pup that needs some training? Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons is offering low-cost dog obedience classes.

Here's a schedule of upcoming classes:

ARF’s DOG OBEDIENCE, BASIC & INTERMEDIATE

The next sessions starts Friday, September 30 and Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2.

According to ARF, dogs and their handlers will learn basic obedience using positive reinforcement techniques.

Curriculum includes Leash Handling, Let’s Go, Turning Techniques, Stay/Stand, Sit/Stay, Down/Stay, Leave It, Come, No Jumping and Leash Pulling Prevention Exercises.

Basic classes will be held on Friday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9 a.m. to 10 am..

Intermediate classes will be held Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Friday classes: Sept. 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28

Saturday classes: Oct. 1, 9, 15, 22 and 29 (No class on Oct. 8)

Sunday classes: Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30

Where: ARF Adoption Center, 91 Daniels Hole Road, Wainscott

Tuition: $150 for five classes ($125 for ARF dogs adopted within the last 12 months)

ARF’s Off Leash Dog Obedience

Next session starts Friday, September 30

Dogs and their handlers will learn healing off leash, long distance sit and recall, targeting skills for better control, out of site down/stay and directed off leash jumping and retrieving.

**Must graduate intermediate obedience to enroll.

When: Friday afternoons 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Classes: Sept. 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28

Where: ARF Adoption Center, 91 Daniels Hole Road, Wainscott

Tuition: $150 for five classes

ARF’s PUPPY KINDERGARTEN

Next session starts Sunday, October 2

Classes focus on socialization, interactive skills and simple obedience.

When: Sunday afternoon 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Classes: Oct. 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30

Where: ARF Adoption Center, 91 Daniels Hole Road, Wainscott

Tuition: $150 for five classes ($125 for ARF puppies adopted within the last 12 months)

ARF’s RECREATIONAL DOG AGILITY, BEGINNER, SMALL DOG BEGINNER* & ADVANCED

Next session starts Saturday, October 1, 2016 (Oct. 8 classes start one hour later)

Dogs and their handlers learn basic skills including ramps, jumps, tunnels and weave poles.

When: SMALL DOG – BEGINNER: (dogs under 30 lbs.) Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

BEGINNER, Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

ADVANCED, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Saturday classes: Oct. 1, 8 (an hour later), 15, 22 and 29

Tuition: $175 for five classes

ARF presents AKC® CANINE GOOD CITIZEN® CGC PREP CLASS

Session starts Friday, September 30

CGC Prep Class is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

When: Friday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Friday classes: Sept. 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28

Where: ARF Adoption Center, 91 Daniels Hole Road, Wainscott

Tuition: $200 for five classes

ARF’s THERAPY DOG PREP CLASS — NEW

Sessions starts Monday, October 17,

Therapy Prep Class will prepare handlers and dogs for the Pet Partners therapy dog evaluation. The class will cover all the required obedience and therapy exercises that evaluators will use to determine a dogs suitability for registration as a Pet Partners therapy dog. It is recommended that participants have completed the Intermediate Obedience class at ARF or have already taken the AKC® Canine Good Citizen course but not required.

When: Monday afternoon 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Monday classes: Oct. 17, 24, 31, Nov. 7 and 14
