Bomb Threat At East Hampton Elementary School; 'Everything Fine', Officials Say
Police investigated and the threat was "unsubstantiated" according to school district officials.

EAST HAMPTON, NY: A bomb threat led to the evacuation of John M. Marshall Elementary School in East Hampton Wednesday morning, but as of 12:30 p.m., officials said all was well.
East Hampton Village Police investigated the threat, which came in by phone Wednesdya morning, representatives at the district office said, but nothing suspicious was found and students were allowed back into the building.
East Hampton Village Police Chief Gerard Larsen the school received call at almost 11 a.m. "It came in as a recorded mesage and had a caller ID," he said.

Larsen said police tracked the number back to a phone on Chincoteague Island, Virginia. "We contacted their local police and they went to the house; someone had hacked that number and was using it," he said.
Calls also came in from Portand and New Hampshire, which had also had threats, he said.

Police searched the elementary school in East Hampton and found nothing, Larsen said; school was soon back in session.
According to a message on the East Hampton Union Free School District's website by Superintendent Rich Burns, "Please be advised that the John Marshall Elementary School building received a non-specific phone threat this morning. The police were immediately alerted, and our students and staff were safely evacuated. After a thorough search and investigation by the East Hampton Village Police Department, it was determined to be a non-credible threat. This same phone threat was also received by other schools in other states. At this point, the JMMES staff and students have resumed their regular day. On behalf of our Board of Education and School District, we thank the East Hampton Village Police Department for their quick response. We also wish to thank all of our staff and students for being so cooperative during this time."
