Car Thief Found Sleeping in Stolen Mercedes: Police

The woman was found in the back of the luxury car, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY - A woman stole a Mercedes and then was found asleep in the backseat, police said.

According to East Hampton Village Police, Beverly Deperstein, 41, of the Bronx, was arrested on Thursday at 4:17 p.m. and charged with second degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, fourth degree grand larceny, a felony, third degree unauthorized use of a vehicle, a misdemeanor, and second degree criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor.

Police were investigating the report of the stolen vehicle and found the Mercedes on Cedar Street, authorities said.

The woman gave a false name, an alias, Delabertstine, police said.

She was arrested and transported back to East Hampton Village Police headquarters for processing, police said.
