Coast Guard Suspends Search For Fisherman Missing Off Montauk

BREAKING: The fisherman, who was not wearing a life jacket, was last seen Monday afternoon, the United States Coast Guard says.

MONTAUK, NY β€” The Coast Guard suspended the search Tuesday night for a missing fisherman who was last seen aboard a vessel 25 miles south of Montauk.

The man missing is a 55-year old crewmember from the fishing vessel Miss Shauna who was last seen at 4 p.m. Monday, and who was not wearing a life jacket at the time.

For approximately 28 hours, a number of Coast Guard units, as well as fishing vessels from the community ran 22 search patterns and covered an area over 4,200 square miles, the USCG said.

Assets involved in the search were a 47-foot motor life boat from Station Montauk, a 47-foot motor life boat from Station Shinnecock, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod, an HC-144 Ocean Sentry plane from Air Station Cape Cod, an HC-130 Hercules plane from Air Station Elizabeth City, Coast Guard Cutter Shrike, and Coast Guard Cutter Juniper.

Miss Shauna is a fishing vessel based in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
