Cops: Early Morning Fight at Boathouse Restaurant in Springs

Despite rumors that there had been a stabbing, police said a male victim had simply fallen in the lot and was cut with glass.

East Hampton Town police said there was a fight at the Boathouse Restaurant in Springs in the early morning hours on Thursday and that a male patron was injured. However, there is no evidence, police said, that the two are directly related.

Chief Ed Ecker said there were about 20 people at the Boathouse, a late night hang out, when 911 dispatchers received word of a fight at about 2 a.m. One man, whose age Chief Ecker wasn't sure of, told police he had fallen in the parking lot. Although it wasn't immediately clear to police whether he had tripped or been pushed, Ecker said, "He got glass shards in his belly."

There was allegedly broken glass or bottles in the parking lot, Ecker said.

Rumor had it that the man, whose name police did not release, had been stabbed. Detective Lt. Chris Anderson said he did not believe the man had been stabbed. His department questioned the man Thursday morning and found there was no evidence even that he fell as a result of the fight.

"There was no intentional act by anybody cutting him or in any way, shape, or form, impaling him with glass."
