Drunk Driver Facing Felony Charge In East Hampton: Police

Police found an open bottle of rum in the vehicle, authorities said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man who was caught driving drunk with a suspended license was arrested recently, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Angel H. Uyaguari-Farez, 35, was arrested on Feb. 6 at 9:06 p.m. on Montauk Highway in Amagansett.

He was driving a white Chevy 1500 west on Montauk Highway when, while attempting to make a righthand turn from Windmill Lane, he drove off the roadway and onto the shoulder, police said.

Upon investigation, he was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, and slurred speech, and, upon exiting the vehicle, was found to be unsteady on his feet, police said. He also performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests administered, police said.

Authorities observed a brown bag with an open bottle of rum on the rear floor of the vehicle, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor, first degree aggravated unlicensed operation, commit aggravated unlicensed operation 2/alcohol or drug, a felony, and operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent alcohol or more in blood, first offense, a misdemeanor, police said.

Cash bail was set at $7,500, police said.
