Drunk Driver Heads Into Oncoming Traffic, Almost Hits Tree: Police

The car only had three working tires and the driver was heading from a previous accident, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A drunk driver headed into incoming traffic, almost hit a tree, and tried to navigate on only three working tires, police said.

According to East Hampton Police, Nathaniel D. Trowbridge, 22, was arrested on Friday at 2:35 a.m. on Berryman Street and Winslow Avenue.

He was driving a 2009 Honda east and was seen failing to maintain his lane, crossing over the pavement markings and into the opposite lane of traffic, and then driving off the roadway, almost hitting a tree, while on only three working tires, police said.

Fragments of the vehicle were being thrown into the roadway from an apparent prior collision at another unknown location, police said.

He had the odor of a strong alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor, police said.
