Drunk Driver Resists Arrest: Police
The man was clinging to the rear of his vehicle, flailing his arms, and injured an officer's finger, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man was busted after he was caught speeding drunk and resisted arrest, police said.
According to East Hampton Town Police, Xavier G. Calle-Mendez, 30, was arrested on Saturday at 2:31 a.m. on Three Mile Harbor Road near the intersection of Bayview Avenue after he drove a 1997 Dodge north at 70 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone and drove over the pavement markings into the opposite lane of travel on Three Mile Harbor Road by the intersection of Boat Yard Road.
After being advised he was under arrest and charged with driving while intoxicated, Calle-Mendez "began to tense up, refused to place both hands behind his back, physically clinging to the rear of his vehicle," police said; he "continued to be resistive, flailing and pulling his arms away from" the police officers, "resulting in a laceration to" the arresting officer's right pinky finger, officials said. He was finally subdued and placed in handcuffs, police said.

Upon investigation, he was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his speech was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet, and he performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests, police said.
He was charged with operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent alcohol or more in blood, first offense, a misdemeanor, driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, police said.

Cash bail was set at $1,000, police said.
