Drunk East Hampton Man Involved in Car Accident: Police

The driver was found sitting in his vehicle with the car running, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY: An East Hampton man drove drunk and got into a car accident in Springs, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Manuel P. Castillo, 55, was arrested on April 7at 11:36 p.m. on Springs Fireplace Road, near Shadow Lane.

Castillo, police said, was driving north in a 2004 Nissan when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident. He was found sitting in the driver's seat, in the northbound lane, with the engine running, police said. He exited the vehicle as the officer approached, police said.

Castillo was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech, and bloodshot, glassy eyes; he also was unsteady on his feet and performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a first offense, a misdemeanor, police said.
