Drunk Man Crossed Over Double Yellow Line in East Hampton: Police

The driver was arrested on Cedar Street, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A drunk driver was nabbed after he crossed over the double yellow line in East Hampton, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Robert C. Thornton, 24, of San Francisco was arrested on Sept. 3 at 4:25 a.m. on Cedar Street, after he was seen driving south in a black 2016 SUV and crossing over the double yellow lines while "traveling at a speed which was not prudent."

Upon investigation, he was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet and failed all standardized field sobriety tests administered, police said.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor; cash bail was set at $350, police said.
