East Hampton Man Reports Alleged IRS Phone Scam: Police

The person on the phone threatened that the IRS would take action on the victim, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY - A phone scam involving a caller who alleges to be an IRS representative has been reported in East Hampton, police said.

According to East Hampton Town police, a man on Hands Creek Road got a call on February 20 at 9:03 a.m. from a person speaking in “broken English.”

The person identified himself as a “representative from the IRS,” police said; the caller said the man needed to call or the IRS “would take action against him,” police said.

The man was aware the call was a scam, police said; he was instructed to call police if he received any further calls.
