East Hampton Town Police Increasing Sex Offender Monitoring For Halloween

Police provide tips to keep children safe for Halloween.

East Hampton Town Police released a statement on Friday stating they will be increasing sex offender monitoring for Halloween.

The operation, which began Thursday and is expected to continue through Halloween night, consists of several different detectives conducting intensified supervision of registered sex offenders. Police are also visiting the homes of the sex offenders and conducting random surveillance to ensure compliance with state and local laws, according to the statement.

In addition, the police offered the following tips to keep children safe for Halloween:

  • Make sure older children take friends and stay together while trick-or-treating.
  • Never send younger children out alone - they should be with a parent, guardian or another trusted adult.
  • Always walk younger children to the door to receive treats.

  • Be sure children do not approach any vehicle, occupied or not, unless you are with them.
