East Hampton's Historic North End Cemetery Sees 'Thousands of Dollars in Property Damage' After Driver Crashes, Flees: Police
Police are asking for the public's help to help catch the person who left the scene.
East Hampton Village’s historic North End Cemetery, which has headstones dating back hundreds of years, is facing “thousands of dollars in property damage” after a car careened off the roadway and into a fence.
According to East Hampton Village Police, the accident occurred sometime Sunday evening, when the driver of a 2001 gray NIssan XTerra failed to negotiate a curve in the road, left the roadway, collided with a fence and ran into approximately 12 headstone, some dating back hundreds of years. The driver fled the scene, police said.
The vehicle will have front end and front passenger side damage, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call East Hampton Village Police detectives at 631-324-1026. All calls will remain confidential.
