Dana Volkert
Atmospheres
new paintings curated by Carole Reed
MaD Gallery
39 Industrial Rd. Unit 16, Wainscott NY 11975
This exhibition continues the artist' s exploration of patterns and abstractions in the natural world. Dana creates compelling compositions with oil paint, abalone and various types of leafing. The resulting works are luminous abstractions with subtle texture and a minimalist feel.
Artists statement
I have always been inspired by the natural world and its colors and complexity. This new body of work has elements of sea, sky, stone and earth. After years of experimentation, I have created these paintings using a variety of techniques and mediums. They are a combination of composition and chemistry, resulting in multi-layered, textural and atmospheric effects.

Curator Statement
Dana embodies a fully modern and ethereal aesthetic that shows us a macrocosmic world that is both elegant and sublime. The artist’s hand is almost undetectable in the surface of her work and yet I feel as if she has ordered chaos in the most careful fashion.
