Friends, Loved Ones Team Up to Help 'Bring Mom Home'
Vonda Miller Lester was diagnosed with lung cancer, which has spread quickly, organizers of a GoFundMe say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — The East Hampton community is reaching out to help a woman battling cancer to spend her final days at home.
A GoFundMe, "Help Mom Come Home" set up by Alexandra Rose Miller has raised $6,060 of its $15,000 goal in one day.
"As many of you may know mom (Vonda Miller/Lester) was diagnosed with lung cancer, a 'poorly differentiated' squamous cell cancer of the lung, which matastacized to her liver, spine, brain, and other bones," Miller wrote. "This cancer is aggressive and spread quickly."

Miller Lester, she said, "has been through a whirlwind of tests and treatments for the complications of the cancer since she has been there, but with her body being so weak she is not a candidate for any other therapies."
And now, she said, it's time for Mom to come home.

"We are asking for help, for the woman who many called 'Mom', the one who so many hold dear. She deserves to be home to spend what very little time she has left comfortable and at peace," she wrote.
Bringing her home, however, will require round the clock nursing and aide care, Miller said.
"While hospice provides some care, she will still require quite a bit. We are looking to help defer the costs. For the woman who has given her all to those she loves, I am asking on her behalf, for help so that we can give her peace," she added, thanking the community in advance for their help.
