HarborFest Set To Delight In Sag Harbor

SAG HARBOR, NY — The fun's about to start in in Sag Harbor this weekend as HarborFest delights crowds and the village comes alive with crowds enjoying a beloved yearly tradition on the East End.

"Once described as the largest block party extending out over the water, this year HarborFest will be a village-wide event celebrating the maritime history of Sag Harbor," the Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce said. "Our arts and crafts fair and sidewalk sale on Main Street will be held this weekend as well. Enjoy and celebrate Sag Harbor!"

Friday, Sept. 7

5 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Spotlight on boating and fishing and HarborFest kick-off party with live music by Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks, boating and fishing vendors, beer and wine and light bites. Presented by The Sag Harbor Express at the Breakwater Yacht Club

Fun for Kids

Long Wharf will be filled with fun kids' activities all weekend long, with bounce castles, games, competitions, amusements and more. Just off the wharf on Windmill Beach will be tug-of-wars, hula hoop contests and the annual corn shucking contest. Boogie board races for elementary students at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Whaleboat Races

HarborFest’s signature event, held off Windmill Beach, where annual bragging rights and the coveted Whalers Cups are on the line. The races had their origins in the Old Whalers Festival, which began in 1964 as an effort to drum up tourism during the shoulder season. Races begin at noon on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. on Sunday and run throughout the afternoon. Men’s, Women’s, Junior’s and Firefighter divisions will compete.

Spotlight on Boating & Fishing HarborFest Kick-off Party

The Spotlight on Boating & Fishing party will kick off HarborFest weekend with a bang at the Breakwater Yacht Club on Bay Street on Friday night, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Start the evening by touring some of the most beautiful boats offered by local dealers from Strong’s Marine, Port of Egypt and Hamptons Watercraft. Vendors, light bites, beer and wine and live music with Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks.

Clam Chowder Contest

The Sag Harbor Food Pantry, with help from Bridgehampton National Bank, will host an epic taste-off where local restaurants will battle for clam chowder supremacy, featuring both New England and Manhattan styles. Contest and tasting begin at noon on Sunday, but get on line early to grab your commemorative HarborFest chowder mug, $15.

Saturday Night Concerts on Long Wharf

The Sag Harbor Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary brings live music to Long Wharf on Saturday, with Wiggleboy from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the Hoo Doo Loungers from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 pm.

Flyboard Demonstrations

Watch the pros from Hampton Flyboard as they “surf the sky” off Long Wharf. Demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Live Music with The Scofflaws

The Scofflaws are a Huntington-based ska band that debuted in 1988. Known for their rambunctious live shows, technically-proficient horn solos and tight arrangements, The Scofflaws were one of the top third wave ska acts of the 1990s. The band originally performed as The New Bohemians, initially with a stronger emphasis on novelty ‘60s R&B and television-show theme cover songs, bolstered by original ska-oriented anthems such as Rudy’s Back and Paul Getty. They will perform on Long Wharf on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
