Linda Lavin: Starting Over

Linda Lavin recently starred in Nicky Silver’s acclaimed play Too Much Sun at NY’s Vineyard Theater. On television, she co‐starred with Sean Hayes, playing his mother in last season’s NBC comedy Sean Saves the World. Her recent theater work includes roles in the Kennedy Center production of Follies; the Lincoln Center Theatre production of Other Desert Cities and the Off‐Broadway and Broadway productions of The Lyons, for which Linda was nominated for Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics, and Drama League Awards. She won a Tony Award in 1987 for her role in Broadway Bound and was nominated for Tony Awards for her roles inLast of the Red Hot Lovers, The Diary of Anne Frank, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, and Collected Stories. Additional roles on Broadway include Hollywood Arms, written by Carol Burnett and her daughter, the late Carrie Hamilton. In addition to theater and concerts, audiences know Linda from her TV roles on Barney Miller, Damn Yankees!opposite Phil Silvers and Lee Remick, and as the waitress and mother in the sitcom Alice based on the award‐winning film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. During the nine seasons (1976-1985) Alice was on the air, Linda nabbed two Golden Globe awards and an Emmy nomination.
