Man Caught Driving Drunk in East Hampton: Police

The man was charged with a misdemeanor, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY - An East Hampton man was cuffed for driving drunk last Thursday, police said.

According to East Hampton Town police, Jose. G. Fernandez-Chuqui, 21, was arrested on March 3 at 11:16 p.m. after driving a 2009 blue Nissan northwest on Cedar Street near Hands Creek.

Fernandez-Chuqui failed to keep right and maintain his lane, police said; he had "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy and he was unsteady on his feet," police said. He performed poorly on standard field sobriety tests administered, police said.
