Man Charged With DWI in East Hampton Village: Police

The arrest was made on Sunday morning.

EAST HAMPTON VILLAGE, NY - An East Hampton man was arrested on a DWI charge in East Hampton Village on Sunday morning, according to East Hampton Village Police.

An officer noticed a car heading westbound on Montauk Highway by Stephen Hands Path and driving 68 mph in a 40 mph zone and driving on the shoulder of the road at about 1:08 a.m., according to police.

After stopping the car and speaking to the driver, identified as Jorge Rivadeneira, 34, the officer claims ”his breath smelled of an alcoholic beverage, his eyes were red and glassy, his speech was slurred and he had trouble locating his license in his wallet,” police said.

Rivadeneria also failed a field sobriety test, according to police.

When asked, he claimed he drank half a bottle of alcohol at noon and he was unsure of what type of alcohol he drank, police said.

He also had an open bottle of Corona beer inside his car along with an open cup containing “some type of mixed alcoholic beverage,” police said.

Rivadeneria was arrested on an aggravated DWI charge, as well as speeding in zone, consumption of alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle and driving on the shoulder, according to police.
