Man Impersonating Cop Pulls Cars Over in Montauk: Police

BREAKING: The man had a loaded 9 mm gun in the car, a loaded magazine, handcuffs and a fake badge were found, police said.

MONTAUK, NY — A New York man impersonating a cop was caught pulling people over in Montauk, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, officers responded to a 911 call on Monday at 2:27 p.m. on Route 27 in Montauk where a dark-colored sedan with red and white flashing lights was forcing motorists from the roadway.

East Hampton Town police officers stopped a Brooklyn man, Krishna Parihar, near Upland Road; he identified himself as a New York City police officer, authorities said.

Parihar, who was wearing an imitation New York City Police badge and an empty holster on his belt, providing conflicting information when questioned by officers, police said.

A loaded 9 mm handgun was recovered from the driver's seat floor of the vehicle, as well as a loaded magazine from the passenger compartment of the vehicle, police said.

Red and white emergency flashing lights, handcuffs, and handcuff keys were also recovered from Parihar's 2015 Dodge Charger, which was registered in North Carolina, police said.

Parihar, a cell phone sales representative and part-time student, was charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, first degree criminal impersonation, a felony, and unlawful possession of certain ammunition feeding devices, a misdemeanor, police said.

Arraignment is slated for Tuesday at East Hampton Town Justice Court, police said.
