Montauk Motel Staff Opens Hearts For Puerto Rico
"Many of our employees, past and present, call western Puerto Rico home, and to quite a few Montauk locals, Rincon, PR is a sister town."

MONTAUK, NY — The staff of a Montauk motel is opening its hearts to help the people of Puerto Rico. The Atlantic Terrace Motel has created a GoFundMe, "Atlantic Terrace for Puerto Rico," which has raised $2,953 of its $15,000 goal so far.
"On behalf of the Atlantic Terrace family, our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this catastrophic hurricane season. Hurricane Maria has devastated Puerto Rico and nearly 3.5 million Americans are facing a humanitarian crisis," the page said. "Resources are scarce, communications are down, and electricity is not to be restored for several months. The island is in dire need of assistance and based on the current economic status of PR, it will be a long road to recovery."
The page continued: "Puerto Rico is a region near and dear to our hearts here at the Atlantic Terrace and the Montauk community as a whole. Many of our employees, past and present, call western Puerto Rico home and to quite a few Montauk locals, Rincon, PR is a sister town where many spend their winters, living and working in the off-season. As the news continues to trickle in from last week’s powerful storm, we’re learning our friends and family and the communities in which they live, need help."

The effects of Hurricane Maria have directly impacted many of Atlantic Terrace's team members and friends in Montauk; several of their homes have been flooded, personal possessions destroyed and businesses left in shambles, the page said.
"As the season in Montauk is coming to an end, the Puerto Rican community here is unsure what to expect as they prepare to return home or if they can return home," the page read. "The Atlantic Terrace would like to support Puerto Rico and we are asking for donations to help our loved ones rebuild. We are sending supplies and will make sure 100% of the donations get into the right hands and are given directly to the communities in need."
