Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck By Unlicensed East Hampton Driver on Montauk Highway: Police
BREAKING: The driver, who was unlicensed, swerved to avoid hitting a deer and struck the man, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — Police are investigating an accident that killed a pedestrian on Montauk Highway in East Hampton Thursday night, authorities said.
The crash took place at 6:30 p.m. on Montauk Highway, when the driver, Jose Cifuentes-Monzon, 32, of East Hampton, who was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee east on Route 27, reportedly swerved to avoid hitting a deer and subsequently struck the victim, Harry Greenfield, 72, of Lighthouse, Florida, as he was walking on the shoulder of the roadway in front of Café Max, said East Hampton Village Police, who are investigating the accident along with East Hampton Town Police.

Greenfield was transported by East Hampton Village Ambulance paramedics to Southampton Hospital, where he subsequently died from his injuries, police said.

There are no criminal charges filed at this time, police said; however Cifuentes-Monzon was arrested and charged with violations including operating without a license and improper lane usage, police said.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.
