Pierson High School Students Take Vow of Silence
The students took a vow in honor of the national youth movement, "Day of Silence" on Friday.

Members of the Pierson High School Gay Straight Alliance took a vow of silence on Friday as part of the annual national youth movement, “Day of Silence”.
Over 80 student members took the vow in order to bring attention to the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people as well as in the name of anti-bullying.
The students also wore rainbow lanyards to represent their participation in the movement.

Before the event, the participants raised additional awareness within their school by talking to their peers about anti-LGBT bullying, name-calling and harassment.
The event was founded in 1996 in Virginia and has since become the largest single student-led action towards creating safer schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, according to Dayofsilence.org.

In 2008, the organizing efforts has reached over 8,000 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities across the country.
