Police: Amagansett Man Dies After Crashing Into Utility Pole

The incident occurred on Saturday morning.

An Amagansett man died in a car accident after he hit a utility pole in Amagansett early Saturday morning, according to East Hampton Town Police.

The accident that occurred on Windmill Lane, south of Town Lane, where police and the Amagansett Fire Department found a 2001 Ford pick up off the roadway with one male occupant, identified as Eric Payne, 25, police said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the car was traveling northbound when it left the roadway, impacted a snowbank, lost control and struck a utility pole, according to police.

Payne was pronounced dead at the scene by investigators from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office, police said.

The accident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the East Hampton Town Police Department at 631-537-7575.
