Police: Connecticut Man Arrested On DWI Charge

Police said the man was driving intoxicated on Montauk Highway near Green Hollow Road.

A Connecticut man was arrested in East Hampton on a DWI charge on Sunday, Nov. 9, according to police.

While on routine patrol, an East Hampton Village police officer observed Giorgios Kovlakas, 24, driving on the shoulder and crossing over the solid double yellow line on Montauk Highway near Green Hollow Road.

Kovlakas was pulled over and upon speaking to him, the officer noted that his breath smelled of an alcoholic beverage, his eyes were red and glassy, and he had trouble producing the correct registration paperwork, according to police.

The officer asked Kovlakas if he had anything to drink that night and he responded that he had one beer hours ago, according to police.

After he failed the roadside sobriety tests, Kovlakas was arrested and charged with DWI, driving across hazardous marking and driving on shoulder.

He was transported to the East Hampton Village Police Department headquarters for processing and was held for arraignment.
