Police: Video Proves Man Made Up Story About Being Robbed in East Hampton Parking Lot
The man claimed a man grabbed him and stole his wallet, police say.

An Amagansett man was arrested for falsely reporting to police that he was robbed in a local parking lot on Monday, according to East Hampton Village Police.
Agustin Barranco Reyes, 48, walked into police headquarters on Monday afternoon to report that his wallet was stolen in the Reutershan parking lot on Park Place.
He told police officers that an unknown man grabbed him around the neck from behind as he was exiting his car and while held in a headlock, the man took his wallet from his pocket and ran off toward Herrick Park and escaped, according to police.

While officers were attempting to gather information on the suspect and more details, they were also reviewing video camera feeds from the parking lot in an attempt to get video of the man, police said.
The video camera system revealed that Barranco Reyes had entered the lot, parked, never got out of the car and drove off, without any robbery having occurred, according to police.

After he was presented with the video details, Barranco Reyes confirmed that he had made up the whole story, police said.
He was arrested at about 3 p.m. and charged with third degree falsely reporting an incident, according to police.
