Funding for the project was appropriated in the 2015 New York State budget as part of an accelerated $75 million appropriation to repair widespread road damage from recent harsh winter weather, Thiele said.

The roadwork symbolizes a victory for the assemblyman, who has been advocating for the resurfacing since the summer of 2014, he said.

With an eye toward mitigation of impacts on motorists, pedestrians, residents and businesses, the New York State Department of Transportation said most of the work will be done in stages, on short sections of road, and will take place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday through Friday.

Other facets of the project, including cleaning of catch basins, is scheduled to take place during off-peak daytime periods, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Also, the DOT said, when possible, traffic be shifted to accommodate one travel lane in each direction. Where the road is too narrow to accommodate two lanes, an alternating one way traffic pattern will be utilized.

Intermittent brief closures of all lanes may take place to accommodate positioning of construction equipment.

Thiele and New York State Senator Ken LaValle have also asked the Department of Transportation and Governor Andrew Cuomo for a full resurfacing of the remaining portion State Route 114, Thiele said.
