Sag Harbor Senior Earns Gold Key

Pierson High School senior Molly Vorhaus was more than thrilled to learn that a piece she has written has earned a Gold Key in the flash fiction category in the Young Artists and Writers Scholastic Art and Writing Competition.

Vorhaus’ winning piece, A Letter from Jane Austen, was inspired by the book, The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien and tells of Jane Austen’s emotions toward a friend who loves her.

Aside from spending much of her time writing, Vorhaus is also the founding member of her school’s hiking adventure club, a member of the National Honor Society and varsity sailing team.

She is also a volunteer at South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center.

She intends to study environmental science, human rights and creative writing in college.
