Sag Harbor Students Participate in Hands-On Lesson on Seasons
The lesson was place by science teacher Dan Garvey.

Pierson Middle School students participated in a hands-on lesson with the help of science teacher Dan Garvey in an effort to better understand what creates the four seasons.
Using masking tape, a light source and a globe, seventh-graders replicated solar radiation, the tilt of the Earth’s axis and its revolution around the sun.
The students then made inferences about the seasons based on their observations.

“By visually seeing that some regions were brighter than others and that brightness changes with the revolution of the Earth around the sun, the students were able to conclude that the tilt of the axis is what creates the changing seasons,” Garvey said.
