Southampton Man Nabbed for Driving Drunk After Accident on Springs Fireplace Road

The man was charged with a misdemeanor, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY - A Southampton man involved in a car accident on Springs Fireplace Road in East Hampton was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Nicholas A. Pierce, 27, was arrested on Sunday at 12:34 a.m. and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor.

Police said Pierce was driving a 2012 gray Toyota north on Springs Fireplace Road while in an "intoxicated condition" and was involved in a reportable motor vehicle accident.

Upon investigation, police said there was a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and he was unsteady on his feet."

PIerce performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests, police said.
